FAQ

Questions we get asked.

Where do you work?

We're based in Townsville, North Queensland, and regularly work throughout the region, including Cairns, Mackay, the Burdekin, Mount Isa and beyond. We also travel throughout Queensland and interstate for productions.

We're always happy to discuss projects outside our immediate area, so wherever you're based, feel free to get in touch.

What kinds of projects do you take on?

We work across a broad range of productions, including television commercials, brand campaigns, corporate and promotional films, documentaries, music videos and narrative projects.

Our focus is on creating high-quality, engaging visual content with strong storytelling and cinematic production values. From smaller, specialised productions through to larger commercial campaigns, we tailor our approach, equipment and crew to suit the creative requirements of each project.

Do you handle the whole project or just the shoot?

Both! Caldwell Media offers end-to-end production services, from initial concept development, creative direction and scripting through to filming, editing, sound design, colour grading and final delivery.

We're equally comfortable collaborating with agencies, directors and production companies who already have their creative and production teams in place.

Every project is personally overseen by Ashley Caldwell, who brings extensive experience as a cinematographer and, where required, director. This ensures a consistent creative approach and attention to detail throughout the production process.

What makes your vehicle and camera rigging capabilities different?

One of our key specialities is dynamic camera movement and custom camera rigging.

Over the years, we've designed, developed and refined an extensive range of specialised camera systems, including stabilised vehicle tracking rigs, custom camera mounts, extended-reach dollies, aerial systems and other purpose-built solutions.

Unlike many productions that need to source this equipment externally, we own and operate much of our specialist rigging equipment in-house.

This gives us greater flexibility to develop creative solutions, tackle technically challenging shots and achieve camera movements that would otherwise be difficult or costly to produce, particularly here in North Queensland.

Who is actually on the crew?

Every project is personally led and overseen by Ashley Caldwell, working as cinematographer, director or both, depending on the production.

We work with a trusted network of experienced industry professionals, including camera assistants, gaffers, grips, sound recordists, producers, aerial specialists and post-production creatives.

Rather than operating with a fixed crew, we assemble the right team for each production based on its creative and technical requirements. This allows us to work efficiently on smaller projects while having the flexibility and resources to accommodate larger, more complex productions.

Can we hire the equipment without the crew?

We offer a range of professional camera, lighting, grip and specialist rigging equipment as part of our production services.

Most of our camera and specialist equipment is supplied with an experienced operator or crew member to ensure it's used safely and effectively. Selected equipment may also be available for dry hire by arrangement.

Feel free to get in touch to discuss your equipment requirements and available options.

How long does a project take?

Production timelines vary depending on the scope and complexity of the project.

A straightforward shoot and edit may only require a couple of weeks, while larger productions involving creative development, scripting, multiple locations or more extensive post-production will naturally take longer.

We'll discuss your deadlines early in the process and provide a realistic production schedule so you know what to expect before moving forward.
